This beautiful Halmahera Blue-Tongued Skink is a strong, healthy youngster with a fantastic temperament and plenty of personality. Currently thriving in a spacious tropical setup, this skink is feeding confidently and showing excellent growth. Blue-tongues are well known for their curious nature, hardy disposition, and impressive display when flashing their iconic blue tongue.

Temperament:
Generally calm and inquisitive once settled. May display the typical defensive huffing and tongue display when startled but usually settles quickly with regular, gentle handling.

• ~18–24 inches

Average Lifespan:
• 15–20+ years with correct husbandry

Enclosure

Currently housed in a spacious terrestrial 4x2ft enclosure with plenty of cover and enrichment to encourage natural behaviours.

Heating & Temperatures

Basking Spot: 35–40°C
Warm Side: 28–30°C
Cool Side: 24–26°C
Night Drop: 22–24°C

Humidity:
Halmahera blue-tongues require higher humidity (70–90%) compared to Australian species, which helps support healthy skin and sheds.

Furnishings

• Multiple hides on both warm and cool sides
• Cork bark, logs, and clutter for security
• Large shallow water dish (these skinks often enjoy soaking)
• Moisture-retentive substrate such as coco husk, orchid bark, or a suitable tropical mix

Feeding

Feeding well on a varied omnivorous diet, including quality blue-tongue diets, insects, and appropriate fruits and vegetables. Demonstrating a strong appetite and healthy growth.
